Last night, the Recording Academy hosted a concert in which they announced the nominations for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards show. The show will be airing on CBS on February 13, 2011 at 8pm ET/PT. It will be held right here in L.A. at the nearby Staples Center. Many of nominees included superstars Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Eminem, Rihanna, and relative newbies B.o.B., Bruno Mars, and Lady Antebellum. Hip-hop great Eminem leads with ten nominations and Bruno Mars is second with seven. I was very surprised that many of the more mainstream songs are hip-hop. When hip-hop first came out, it was considered a “fad” but clearly it is here to stay! Also, the late great Michael Jackson is nominated for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” for “This is It.”
My favorite Grammy category is “Best New Artist.” I love to see who the Academy thinks is the best up-and-coming musical artist. This year’s nominations for “Best New Artist” are:
Justin Bieber- My World 2.0
Drake- Thank Me Later
Florence & The Machine- Lungs
Mumford & Sons- Sigh No More
Esperanza Spalding- Chamber Music Society
Who do you think will win this category? I want Drake to win but I believe the Academy will select Florence & The Machine or Esperanza Spalding (who I both like as well). Let us know in the comments below who do you think will win this category and which category is your favorite.
Is anyone planning to go to the Grammys at the Staples Center? Maybe we can even plan a Grammy watching night at our clubhouse. I think that would be fun for all music lovers here in NoHo14!

Hey I would love to help organize a watching party. I had a great Christmas party here on Thursday and am in the music business so I can help make this a great networking event.
